Call For Papers is Closed

2023 Western Conference of the Association for Asian Studies

On behalf of Western Conference for the Association for Asian Studies, Brigham Young-Idaho and the University of Montana, we are pleased to issue a Call for Papers for our 2023 in-person conference, October 5-6, 2023, in West Yellowstone, Montana. We will be joined for a Keynote address by AAS Vice President, Dr. Jean Oi, the William Haas Professor of Chinese Politics and Senior Fellow at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford University.

We welcome proposals from all disciplines related to the broad theme of Asia Reopened: Reconsidering the Past and Present. We invite proposals for Organized Panels including Roundtables and Workshops, and for Individual Papers, from faculty, graduate students, intendent scholars, and undergraduates (when part of an organized panel that is chaired by a faculty mentor).

Please submit a proposal using the WCAAS 2023 submission forms panels/roundtable/workshops and individual papers by July, 15th for priority consideration. If you have any questions regarding proposal submissions, please contact WCAAS at wcaas2023@gmail.com or call (208) 496-4315. For additional conference information please visit: https://wcaas.byu.edu/, where you may also find an archive of programs from prior conferences.

Please note: The conference schedule is designed to encourage full participation, while also allowing participants to enjoy the area’s majestic surroundings, including Yellowstone National Park.

We look forward to welcoming scholars and students from the intermountain west, Mexico and beyond to a friendly and intellectually engaging conference in West Yellowstone, Montana—the West Entrance and gateway community to Yellowstone National Park.

Sincerely,

Michael Paul (BYU-Idaho) and Brian Dowdle (University of Montana)
